Free Essays on William Blake

â€Å"The human abstract† written by William Blake depicts actual human nature while, satirically, its title suggests the human ideal. With the help of a group of critical materials, the theme and symbolism of the poem, through my point of view, will be divulged, verse-by-verse and stanza-by-stanza, through the images conveyed by the poet. One must keep in mind that Blake placed this poem among his â€Å"Songs of Experience† for it is a realization through the experience of man that, much like the saying â€Å"a doctor can not exist without disease†*, evil must be present in our world for there to be good as the first stanza illustrates. â€Å"Pity would be no more, If we did not make somebody Poor: And Mercy no more could be, If all were as happy as we;†* It begins with a quite severe criticism of innocence through its’ divine attributes such as â€Å"pity† and â€Å"mercy†. Out of this context, these can be considered quite noble feelings, but here, they stem from the â€Å"poor† and the unhappy created by human society that is precisely addressed by â€Å"we† at the beginning of the second verse. The first and third verses, pronounced as calamities, unveil that, to the speaker, these attributes are â€Å"more important than the happiness of all†* perhaps because they provoke an â€Å"alleviation of sorrow†* for the person acting mercifully or feeling pity for another. Hence, the structure of the last verse â€Å"as happy as we† to emphasize the inequality of joy. â€Å"And mutual fear brings peace; Till the selfish loves increase. Then Cruelty knits a snare, And spreads his baits with care.†* The â€Å"divine attributes of innocence†, in the second stanza, undergo a sinister metamorphosis to prepare for â€Å"Blake’s naturalistic fall of man†*, much like the traditional fall commonly known as the story of Adam and Eve, it involves a tree. The Internet Has Been Overly Commercialized

The Internet Has Been Overly Commercialized The Internet has become like a huge billboard for various industries. And the fact of the matter is that we use the Internet every day. Why Is the Internet so Popular? The year was 1990; this was the year when the Internet was very recognizable†¦ why? The World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners-Lee. Public networking then became liberally available in the year of 1993, and since then the number of users that are on the Internet has grown to exponential numbers and continues to grow each year. With how technology is growing and the availability of when, where and how you can access the Internet, its no wonder that more people are utilizing the Internet for just about everything that is done. For that point alone, it brings forth a great debatable question: has the Internet become overly commercialized? THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN OUR EVERYDAY LIFE Some would argue that the Internet has not become overly commercialized†¦ but in all reality of the matter, the truth is yes†¦ the Internet has become overly commercialized since the date of its conception. At the moment from when the Internet was born, the Internet was mainly used by scientist and military officers. The main goal of scientist and military officers being able to use the Internet was to share information that was deemed viable. The purpose of the Internet and them being able to share the information via the Internet was to keep that information safe in case of a nuclear war breaking†¦ they wanted to be able to get that information back. But the Internet became commercialized around 1995†¦ it was something that everyone was using, and with the use of so many people, explosive growth is what the Internet received. People Are Looking for ADS Since the Internet had become so popular and growth was a continued trend from it, people knew it was only a matter of time before companies and advertiser began to use the Internet for their own commercial interests. Since there has been so much commercialized content on the Internet, it seems that more and more that is all that a lot of people that use the Internet come for. They arent getting online to get or read content†¦ the majority of people that are using the Internet now are getting on to see the advertisements that are being displayed. Most users of the Internet are looking for ads that have something to offer rather than the content that can be found on the Internet. With all of the content that is readily available on the Internet, it is very easy to get lost in it. Even if your initial goal in getting on the Internet was to look at good content, or to find out some information that you were in search of, with all of the commercialized content that is on the Internet it is easy to get distracted from your initial reason for getting online. But how, you may be asking, has it become so commercialized? Its not just because of the ads; think about all of the websites that you can visit that promotes movies†¦ or sites that promote televisions shows. You have the sites that are dedicated only to television shows, or the characters that are within these shows. Youre able to see clips of movies before they have come out. You can easily get online and see video games and things that are to come†¦ but what drives this commercialization? Easily put in one word†¦ money. Commercialization Is Increasing Every Single Day All things are about money these days. With the majority of these sites, you will find that the more viewers they have to the site, the more money they make. And even if they do not make money from people viewing the sites, the more people that are able to see the site, the more likely they will go out to see the movie when it comes out; the more likely they are to go out and buy the video game once it is released. People are more eager and persuaded to go out and get something they have seen, especially if they have seen it more than once. And with the way the Internet works today†¦ ads are everywhere. The more ad space that is purchased on the Internet, especially if it is brought on several different sites, the more often the ad is seen. DOES VIOLENCE IN THE MEDIA CAUSE VIOLENCE IN CHILDREN? The Internet has become like a huge billboard for various industries. And the fact of the matter is that we use the Internet every day. Whether we are using it for work, or if were using it for school†¦ its being used, constantly. A lot of our televisions integrate the Internet into what we are viewing†¦ phones use the Internet, and we can easily access the Internet through our phones. The Internet is everywhere we look and is utilized with just about everything we do. Commercialization is here and it is increasing every single day. Yes, the Internet has been commercialized and it grows with each passing second of every day.

Utopia and liberated Women in Contemporary Advertising Essay

Utopia and liberated Women in Contemporary Advertising - Essay Example Despite their ability to cast these commercials and deliver a final polished product to the user, the result of the commercial still give a level of turbulence that is hidden to the readers or viewers of these commercials. Fowles also gives an analysis of the dynamics that are behind the creativity of an advert and the level of research that it takes to generate the same. Morden advertising details pervades most areas of social life. It is, for this reason, that advertisements have become the subject of many discourses. MacCurdy (2012) observes the iconic nature of the advertisement communication and images from a cultural perspective. The study denotes the fact that in the prevailing advertisement cultures, the iconic belief that is promoted by utopian undertones produce a therapeutic relief to the audience. In many women magazines the communication that is persistent is skewed towards a relief of the anxieties that women face in fashion. As such the exploitation of the same is common in the delivery of any marketing communication that is to do with women. Liberation from the same is therefore necessary within the context of marketing communication. The therapeutic nature of advertisements is supposed to quell a level of anxiety that psychological factors put on people (Dyer, 1992). The anxiety is usually common in women and is as a result of the common problems that could be solved in different ways in fashion and beauty. The paradox that is raised, in this case, is that despite the therapeutic ads providing a level of solace to the audience, it instead raises the same. It is due to this paradoxical view that is presented by these ads that this study seeks to review postmodern advertisements in terms of utopia and the liberated woman mind set. The notions above and this preceding discussion set the stage for the essay. Particularly the concept of utopia in relation to the design and delivery of this information marketing communication is reviewed

20th history of art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

20th history of art - Essay Example The passage has explanations on how an artist ought to arrange and use those several essentials in his artistic work. This is the chief concern of the excerpt as well as the formal analysis requirement. The passage indicates that an artist should figure out and describe and interpret those decisions and why the artist may have made them It requires one to go out in places like the museums and other related artistic places to find an artistic object to be analyzed and interpreted. Comprehensive description and notes on the object are to be taken by visualizing the object and then putting it into text. This is a fundamental part of an artistic work. I will discuss Diego Rivera: Murals for The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in this assignment. In the six weeks, Rivera and his staff proved helpful feverishly on this convenient artwork in a vacant collection of the museum that had been transformed into a short-term studio room. By starting day he had created five sections that presented New Yorkers to some of the brand new visuals from his Spanish painting periods. One presented a swashbuckling image of the agricultural innovator Emiliano Zapata; another outlined the grimacing jaguar cover up of an Aztec soldier crouching over his deceased challenger (Diego 4). The display, only the second single display by a residing specialist at MoMA (the first was Henri Matisse), was an immediate hit. And Rivera kept working, previous the deadline: he converted out three more moments of regional attention, glimpses of a frustrated but diligent New York are in accordance with the rapid development he experienced during his residing in Midtown. These were included to the display, illustrating more crowds of people. On his first journey to France, in 1920, Rivera analyzed the task of French Rebirth experts, spending particular attention to the techniques and components of fresco artwork. He later upgraded the method by

Firestick Farming Essay Example for Free

Firestick Farming Essay What is Fire stick farming? Fire stick farming is the traditional way Aboriginal people looked after the land and created fire breaks to ensure large destructive summer fires were not a threat. Communication Fire was a form of communication. When water supplies were running low one of the men would travel to where they knew the next source of water would be. On his way there he would take a fire stick and burn small patches of grass as he went. If the waterhole had sufficient water, he would build up a stockpile grass, wood, a few green leaves and branches. When he lit it the thick smoke would signal the family that it was time to shift camp to this new location. They could easily follow the freshly burnt out pathway to the waterhole. Hunting Fire was an important with hunting but was rarely used to actually kill animals directly. Instead, areas were set on fire in such a way as to direct animals to where they could be easily killed. Fire was also be used to smoke animals out of caves and tree trunks. The Concept of Tyranny in Literature Essay -- Tyranny Plato John Locke

The Concept of Tyranny in Literature All social contract theorists and classical thinkers understand tyranny to be someone (or government) with unrestrained power that is unjust or unfair to the body, it governs. They each share some views about the effects of tyranny but they have different views on the preventions and the circumstances that give rise to tyranny. In the end, Locke has the most effective ideas as opposed to Plato and Hobbes. Although, they are all equally great minds, based on the democracy that Americans hold true, Locke’s analysis can be the only logical means of proposed prevention. The first author, who takes particular concern with the concept of tyranny, is Plato in his work the The Republic. He perceives tyranny as a â€Å"dictatorship and the dictatorial man† (Porter 84) that â€Å"evolve[s] from democracy† (Porter 84). Circumstances that appear to give rise to tyranny, according to Plato, would be the â€Å"pure wine of liberty† (Porter 84) that seeps into the houses’ of man and breeds anarchy, such as in democracy. The people become slaves to the excessive servitude of keeping liberty with no restraints and rulers are unable to act without restricting someone’s liberty. These rulers are incapable of properly ruling because they cannot trample on the liberty of their subjects, or they will become considered â€Å"foul oligarchs† (Porter 84) and this further generates anarchy through the lack of rules and punishments the rulers can place on the city. It is the people who elevate â€Å"one man as their champio n above all others† (Porter 86) and at first it is a good society because he does not claim to be a ruler but â€Å"freed people from debt and redistributed the land to the people† (Porter 86-87). This create... ...ll effective today, with laws to keep power from consummating in one area, on the Locke theories. It is much more realistic because Plato’s view is a society that is not acceptable by the people, especially not allowing the guardians to keep their own children, to eliminate the idea of inheriting rights, and our basic principals of society have transformed since his time from hierarchy, harmony, and mutual obligation to equality, competition, and self-interest. Hobbes is also not appropriate because his cynical attitude towards men is not appealing to society and the sovereign aspect is not suitable in a democratic nation. Locke proves to be the most effective in today’s government and nations across the world because we have our separation of powers to ensure that the accumulation of power in the government never occurs, and our voting system to ensure equality.

Pearson Education Essay

Training an individual requires that the teacher observes methods through which that person best understands the information being relayed. These methods must be in line with the learning styles of the trainee. Training requires sound knowledge on the subject area. The essence is to acquire knowledge and skills that transforms one’s capability to undertake a task. Training is affected by motivation, the trainer-trainee relationship, availability of resources, prior knowledge and perception (United Nations, 2001). Every trainee has a unique way of acquiring knowledge based on the learning style adopted. These categorizes learners into visual, auditory and kinesthetic or physical learners. Though one may combine all these styles, it is important to maximize on the style one is best in. A trainer may present knowledge through talking. Teachers are commonly known to adopt this kind of style where they lecture students. The key factors to consider when employing such skills include tone of voice, body language and inflection. This is appropriate for auditory learners who understand when instructions are read aloud, information is communicated verbally or speeches are required (Farwell, 2000). Auditory training requires some background sound. These could be some form of music, people talking or TV. Written instructions prove difficult for such learners to get until they are verbalized. Suck kind of learners use their listening and repeating skills in sorting the information acquired. To enhance knowledge acquisition among auditory learners, then the trainer needs to employ adequate verbal direction. They are better trained when they are placed into groups where they can discuss. Being alone limits them to written materials only. In group discussions, they air out their ideas and acquire knowledge from the other members of the group verbally. Therefore, verbal communication and group activities should be encouraged. Reading aloud helps such learners quickly understand what is being relayed. In fact, such learners have most of their work transformed into rhythmic patterns like songs and poems. The trainer should encourage this category of learners to make audio recordings of class note and listen to them when revising. Their memories are refreshed when they listen to what was said or internally recalling the voice of the trainer. As such, they should be allowed to participate in class discussions actively. They should be given room to ask questions and volunteer to answer any questions raised in the class. When tackling their assignments, they should be allowed to read them allowed as it is the only way to be assured of their understanding. When alone, auditory learners are encouraged to whisper new information. Training requires adequate skills in visual learning. This is the kind of training where the trainer has to employ images, maps, graphs or colors to pass across the intended message. A trainer should therefore befriend whiteboards, have some good sense of dressing and color balance. Learners in this category tend to also have adequate spatial skills. Therefore, training such individuals requires adequate use of maps. The trainer should try linking verbal and visual information. This will help the learner with critical thinking where the learner relates a visual object to recall any details. Therefore, even in comprehension of more complex information, the student recalls an object and connects it to the new idea. The trainer should provide such learners with visual data that will allow the students to organize large volumes of information which will aid in revealing relationships and patterns. Here, the trainees are allowed to create graphic organizers like webs, diagrams and concept maps by using symbols containing words for clarity. Visual learners are very good with sign language and they like fashion and colors. Trainers should assist learners come up with lists of things to do, written note or assignment logs (Farwell, 2000). Fleming (2005) suggest that trainers should not use listening and respond tests for this category of learners. Trainers in kindergarten employ feeling, touching and experiencing to train children. This has not only worked well with kindergarten teachers but all trainers in general. The trainer should allow these students to totally engage with the learning activities. Proper organization must be made for such learners to access science laboratories or participate in dance, skits, field trips or other related activities. Such physical activities are very important in learning for these students. They are said to be naturally discoverers and learn through doing unlike thinking first before action. To identify kinesthetic or physical or tactile learners, a trainer should identify traits such as poor handwriting, good sporting skills and restlessness. These learners also like role playing, science laboratories, takes breaks when studying, build models and are always fidget. It is therefore advisable that a trainer allows such learners to have breaks in between their studies, take laboratory classes, study with others, use memory games and use flash cards to memorize. Movement explorations have proved to work for this kind of training. Clapping or tapping out syllables or words have worked well in this circumstance. Concrete objects should be used for establishing patterns or counting. Children should be allowed to move heavy objects on number lines on the floor. They should be given short definitions, multiple choices and fill-ins. Long tests and essays do not work well with them (Fleming, 2005). The earliest form of training was on-job-training. This one involves being trained by a skilled worker on the job site. It is still being used today as it does not require organized lessons or programs. It is therefore cost effective. In the 5th century, training was done through conceptual case studies. Students in China for instance were given parables by Taoists and Confusionists so that they come up with solutions. Today, professional school highly employ these methods. It encourages philosophical thinking and finding solutions to difficult problems without first-hand experience. Nowadays, theories of development, psychology and training are employed. Among great contributors to motivational theories used in training are Abraham Maslow and Herzberg Fredrick. These assisted organizational managers to create working environment that meets the demand for workers’ basic needs. Workers who have their basic needs catered for deliver good results in their workplaces thus helping in the growth of an organization. These stages were chosen as they exhibit great variability in the mode of training. Each stage presents a unique way of training form the previous method. These developments give trainers a wide range of training styles to apply since all the styles are still applicable even in the modern world. Studies show that adults learn like children. Therefore, all the training styles used by children can be applied for adults. The trainer must divert from the â€Å"tell-me† style of training to the â€Å"show-me† style. Visual training is important for adult education just as it is for children. They should be incorporated in the process and made to feel they are part of it. Emphasis should be on doing. This incorporation in discussions and activities help in keeping memory fresh. In fact, lectures should be minimized and emphasis laid on involvement kind of training. In conclusion, the meanings of critical terms associated with training will be defined. First is education. All the activities involved in teaching and learning of technical competency, knowledge and proper conduct constitute the term education. It aims at cultivating skills, professions or trades. It is the process that leads to moral, mental and aesthetic development. It encompasses systematic instructions and teaching. Training is defined as the process of acquiring competencies, knowledge and skills due to teachings on practical or vocational skills and knowledge. Learning is the process that leads to the acquisition of knowledge and skills from perceived information. Adult education is the process of teaching and educating adults. REFERENCE Farwell, T. How far was Roosevelt himself responsible for his election victory in 1932?

There were several reasons for Roosevelt’s election in 1932 all of which can be placed into three different categories, Roosevelt’s strengths, the opponent’s weaknesses and The Depression. All of these reasons were important in their own ways. The Depression had caused America huge problems. Unemployment had risen to nearly 14 million by 1932. Businesses had had to cut production by in some cases up to 80%. Average wage had fallen from 59 to 49 cents an hour. This meant that people were slowly getting more and more desperate as there seemed to be no action being done by the republican government so people started looking for solutions in the Democratic Party. Hoover was very unpopular. He did not acknowledge the depressions existence he didn’t admit there was a problem as he claimed in his speech delivered on the 26th of October a week after the depression started. This meant that people who were suffering through unemployment and homeless were annoyed that Hoover was not even admitting there was a problem which meant he would not help them. In 1932 United States veterans went on a ‘Bonus March.’ The soldiers from WW1, who had been promised a bonus that would be paid to them in 1945, wanted to receive the bonuses early because of starvation and homelessness. 15000 people streamed into Washington. Hoover refused to pay and brought in the army to deal with the veterans. This made Hoover less popular because people respected those who had fought for their country and when Hoover had attacked them which was a terrible thing to do so people viewed him as a bad person. Hoover believed in ‘Lassiez Faire’ which meant that he believed that the Economy should run itself and not be interfered with. This made Hoover unpopular as it meant he would not offer any support for the workers who were now unemployed or loan money to businesses that needed loans to help them create more jobs. Roosevelt did many things to increase his popularity. Firstly, Roosevelt came up with the ‘New Deal’ which outlined what he was going to do to reverse the depression. Roosevelt offered the public relief, recovery and reform none of these policies were in Hoover’s campaign who was still hoping the problem of the depression would fix itself. This meant that people who were suffering wanted a man like Roosevelt in power who was willing to do something about the depression and give them relief. Roosevelt’s ability to bounce back from his polio inspired Americans. People saw how he could deal with a problem face on and overcome rather than hide from it. This was a very appealing characteristic for a president during the depression as people knew that if he was in power he would be determined to face the problem head on. Roosevelt liked touring the country and meeting people. He talks to the people and lets them get to know him as a person not just a far off distant man like Hoover, who people saw as cold and unfriendly. This meant that people liked Roosevelt as a person and felt they had a bond with him that they didn’t have with Hoover, this increased his popularity. I believe that the depression was the greatest cause for Roosevelt’s victory in the 1932 election. During the 1920’s Hoovers ‘Lassiez Faire’ values worked well, there was a large boom and most of the country benefited. However when The Depression occurred it revealed all the problems with Hoover and made Roosevelt look like a better candidate for the job.

Blackberry in the UK Market

Blackberry in the UK Market Over the years RIM’s Blackberry brand has been a powerful contender in the IT industry. It was one of the pioneers which drove the smart phone revolution in 2007 but as per our research we found out that while Blackberry’s revenue and gross profit have been improving between the years 2007 to 2011, the rate at which they have been increasing has been deteriorating. There are many factors to consider in the stagnation of the company’s growth.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Blackberry in the UK Market specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More These can be attributed to the world economy with financial crisis at bay, aggressive competitors such as Apple, Android and Windows consuming the Blackberry market and/ or problems with regards to the saturation of the market with an abundant number of players in the industry. In terms of net marketing contributions, our findings show that year on year percentage cha nge has been decreasing. Packaging the company’s sales, marketing and administration cost over the given years of 2007 to 2011 under the â€Å"marketing cost†, column we have observed that the 2011 marketing cost is two times that of 2010 which is more or less a 50% increase while revenue for 2011 has only increased by 33%. Such occurrence may had been a result of the growing number of aggressive competitors of Blackberry namely Apple’s iPhone series, Google’s massive android franchises and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile smart phones to name a few. According to Iain Mackenzie of BBC New â€Å"For at least a decade, besuited city types spent every spare minute twirling their way through corporate emails and pecking out responses. But then the iPhone arrived, after spending a year or so turning the consumer market upside down, it went after the office inbox† (Mackenzie, 2011). When the iPhone was first released in 2007, Apple improved its iOS†™s exchange server compatibility and provided additional security which not only attracted graphic designers and artists whom are the target market of Apple as a company but also captured Blackberry’s middle-aged gentlemen from the finance departments market. Along came Google’s Android which collaborated with other brands such as HTC, Samsung, LG and other mobile phones to house its operating system. With Android’s wide budget range it captured most of the markets of the smart phone industry from the high end ones to the lower end consumers. Lastly Microsoft’s Windows Mobile phones constant innovation and marketing has won a fair share of loyal followers in the corporate scene. With these growing competitors RIM had been having difficulties addressing concerns with regards to Blackberry’s competiveness. Another theory of Blackberry’s declining sales can be attributed to the recent problems encountered by its marketing department. On Octob er 2011, the Blackberry service in its largest markets had been disrupted causing its users to have problems accessing data services.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More According to RIM the service problem was caused by a core switch failure within its infrastructure and the backup switch which was designed to carry over the functions of the system failed to perform resulting to a large backlog of data (Dipaola Miller 2010). The data crash has affected the company’s brand image and positioning which also lead its users to question RIM’s capability in providing good service and products. Last October 2011, social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook have shown customers’ complaints, disappointments and anger towards Blackberry’s services (Dvorak Weinberg 2011). Lastly, the departure of top executives and senior managers had lead t o its shareholders’ belief that RIM’s unusual management structure hinders the company growth. Jaguar Financial which owns 8% of RIM is urging other shareholders to replace co-founders, Mie Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie from their roles as CEO and chairman of the company (Kelion 2011). The internal conflict between the shareholders and the management team has caused RIM a conflicting vision on how it will proceed in Blackberry’s future which presents as a weakness to its competitors with an unstable support system. Observing the revenue breakdown of RIM for the financial year end of March 2011, 80% of the RIM’s revenue came from sales of devices while only 16% came from services. A SWOT analysis on the company shows that the strength of RIM lies in its own capability in producing and manufacturing its own operating system (software) and mobile device (hardware). An additional bonus for Blackberry’s customers is the services it provides which is an ad vantage for its resellers’ because the latter can charge end-users monthly subscriptions. Currently there are about 50 million Blackberry Messenger (BBM) users around the globe thus the company still has its existing market at the same time third-party developers can create applications for Blackberry. Branding wise it is still the preferred choice of corporate users. Weaknesses of the Blackberry brand and smart phone are the bad press release it had conveyed through the service outrage last October 2011; the smart phones themselves are pricy and only cater to corporate users. Blackberry is perceived by many as a device for business people thus ordinary consumers may not relate to its features. It has lags behind with its apps and web browsing experience which are impressively provided by the new Apple, Android and Windows phones and its revenue sources are not diversified. Blackberry is missing out on a potential source of revenue by the absence of a strong app store.Adverti sing We will write a custom essay sample on Blackberry in the UK Market specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Analysing such strengths and weaknesses opportunities such as Blackberry’s potential in extending its software development to third party companies and its expansion in developing countries can broaden its market provided that it needs to address cost issues as the customers in the said countries are price sensitive. Threats such as competitors’ branding and pricing might consume RIM’s market share and restrictions from conservative governments (UAE, India, etc.) on security network access may limit its expansion. The poor economic climate brought about by the global financial crisis and recession together with threats of patent lawsuits may challenge its global marketing expansion. Blackberry lacks diversity in its product base compared to its previous smart phone generations. It failed to constitute innovati on in its music and app stores which gives Apple and Google a competitive advantage. The operating systems of Blackberry, which can be provided on other phones present a challenge in terms of where to place it. On one hand it would increase the number of subscriptions and potential customers for app stores but at the same time it might lead to brand dilution. Analysing the PESTEL of the matter, in the political scene issues on security network may arise especially in the countries of UAE, India and China. On the economic scene, problems of exchange rate fluctuation affect the brand’s prices deeming them too expensive for the markets of developing countries. This occurrence will slow down the growth of Blackberry in its new markets. Socially smart phones are the trend nowadays with the popularization of social media networks and demand for instant communication may boost RIM’s sales. Technology wise the impact of 4G, instant messaging and growing demand of apps can be t aken advantage of the company in riding the wave. Finally patent infringement lawsuits may post as a threat to the company especially in its venture in new markets. Personal Subject Pronouns in Spanish

Personal Subject Pronouns in Spanish Spanish pronouns are usually used much like their English counterparts. The biggest difference is that subject pronouns (ones used to tell who or what is performing the action of the main verb in a sentence) can be omitted where theyre required in English. In other words, subject pronouns in Spanish are used primarily for clarity or emphasis. The 12 Personal Subject Pronouns of Spanish yo - Ità º - you (singular familiar)usted - you (singular formal)à ©l, ella - he, shenosotros, nosotras - wevosotros, vosotras - you (plural familiar)ustedes - you (plural formal)ellos, ellas - they These are called personal subject pronouns to distinguish them from the demonstrative pronouns, the equivalent of words such as this and those. There is also a subject pronoun ello, which can be the rough equivalent of it, but it is rarely used. Note that even though à ©l, ella, ellos, and ellas usually refer to people or animals, they can on occasion refer to inanimate objects, with the pronoun matching the grammatical gender of the object or objects being referred to. Vosotros and vosotras are seldom used in most of Latin America, where ustedes can be used even when talking with close friends or children. How To Use or Omit Subject Pronouns Because verb conjugation often suggests who or what the subject of a sentence is, one can properly leave out the subject pronoun or put it at various places in the sentence. Voy a la escuela, yo voy a la escuela, voy yo a la escuela, and voy a la escuela yo are all grammatically correct ways of saying I am going to the school (although the final option would be highly uncommon except if said for poetic effect). But the placement of the pronoun can make a difference in how the sentence is understood. To see how these pronouns are used, examine the sentences below. Subject pronouns, where used, are in boldface: Mi hermano es muy inteligente. Es doctor. (My brother is intelligent. He  is a doctor.) - No subject pronoun is needed in the second sentence, because the subject of the sentence is made clear by the context and the verb form.Mis mejores amigos se llaman Roberto, Ahmad y Suzanne. Son estudiantes. (My best friends are Roberto, Ahmad, and Suzanne. They are students.) - The pronoun is unnecessary in the second Spanish sentence and normally wouldnt be used becauses it is clear who is being referred to.Es fcil comprender el libro. (It is easy to understand the book.) - No pronoun is used to translate an impersonal use of it.Mi hermano y su esposa son inteligentes. Él es doctor, y ella es abogada. (My brother and his wife are intelligent. He is a doctor, and she is a lawyer.) - In this case, the subject pronouns à ©l and ella are used  for clarity.Tà º, ella y yo vamos al cine. (You, she,  and I are going to the movies.) - Note that in this construction the first-person pl ural form of the verb (the one that would be used with the equivalent of we) is used. Thus it is possible to use that verb form without using the pronoun nosotros. Hazlo. (Do it.) Hazlo tà º. (You do it.) - In a command such as this, the addition of the subject often has a similar effect to its use in English. Although grammatically not necessary, the addition of the subject serves to place additional emphasis on the subject.Ella canta bien. (She sings well.) Canta bien ella. She sings well. - The pronoun would be used in the first sentence if theres no context to clearly indicate who is being talked about. By placing ella at the end of the second sentence, the speaker is placing a strong emphasis on the pronoun. The emphasis in the second sentence is on the singer and not the singing. ¿Vas a salir? (Are you leaving?)  ¿Vas a salir tà º? (Are you leaving?) - The first sentence is a simple, uninflected question. But the second one, by adding the subject at the end of sentence, is placing a strong emphasis on the person leaving. One possible translation might be Are even you leaving? Or one might render the English as Are you leaving? wi th a stress or emphasis on you. Nunca va ella al centro. (She never goes downtown.) Ya ha salido à ©l. (He has already left.) - It is common when certain adverbs start a sentence to immediately follow the adverb with the verb, followed by the subject. No special emphasis on the subject is intended. Adverbs often used this way include nunca, ya, bastante, and quizs.- Te amo, dijo à ©l. - Tambià ©n te amo, respondià ³ ella. (I love you, he said. I love you too, she responded.) - When reporting what people have said, it is common to use the subject pronoun after verbs such as decir (to say), preguntar (to ask), and responder (to reply). No special emphasis on the speaker is intended. (Note: The dashes in the Spanish sentences are a type of quotation mark.)

Critical theory, philosophy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Critical theory, philosophy - Essay Example that part of a person’s imagination which is justified through the knowledge he or she garners via various life experiences like reading, interaction as well as seeing and hearing. This understanding is a part of one’s overall perspective and subsequent take on life. Therefore, this book is an important one as human understanding is deeply connected with the written word and the way it has been written. If those words, whether in a philosophical text or otherwise, manage to justify an individual’s personal truth, or appeal to his or her sense of balance in life, then it contributes to his or her understanding. In this way, the choice of Locke’s text is an important one for this paper. Locke’s text starts with a study of innate notions. This portion of the book is a study of the elements that lead to speculation and a subsequent formation of perspective. Throughout this part, Locke has managed to hook the reader on to the idea that speculation is an element that must be used in very discreet doses as more of it can damage the practical side of things in one’s mind. (Locke, 2007) As a philosophical notion, this is an ideal that is true to writing. In writing, it is imperative to stick to a certain balance between factual information and a small amount of speculation. This holds on to people’s imagination and memories. Therefore, in this part of the book, Locke has merely described a style of writing. Further into the book, one will find ideals that are connected with principles in the mind. The mind is an organ that churns out thoughts and expressions of the same. These expressions are a part of the basic mental setup of the person concerned. While every individual does not need to be a writer, it has been said often that there is a book in everybody. This is largely an overthrow of the fact that literary skills have been highly respected in many people. It is a desirable quality. This quality, in turn, springs from an ability to form a successful

Strategic Management Accounting System Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Strategic Management Accounting System - Essay Example It further explains the control procedures expected at the three levels of management control (strategic, tactical and operational) and provides a discussion of how control is exercised and information required at each management level, relates to Highline Co. Ltd. The traditional management accounting systems are of minimal use in the preparation of the strategic plans, monitoring of achievement process of predetermined objectives of the organization and performance evaluation of the employees. The failure of traditional accounting systems have triggered the process of research in order to find out the suitable methods which can eke the changing business techniques in order to achieve the organisational objectives in today's global business environment (Ittner & Larker, 1998). According to the evaluation of the manufacturing data in different companies it has been found that the manufacturing has been transformed. Labour cost is no more considered as the significant cost of manufacturing, it has been replaced by the overhead cost which has become a significant cost of manufacturing process. This change has reduced the usefulness of the traditional accounting techniques. By undertaking the examination of the material cost and labour cost data the validity and generality of these claims can be tested. Moreover, the extent to which manufacturing has changed over time and the nature of these changes can also be examined. This can help the management of the company in designing an effective and up to date management accounting system according to the current needs of the company. The changing products and management styles have reduced the usefulness of cost accounting and management control systems in the modern age of information technology which were previo usly used in many organizations. Decline in Direct Labour: The automation of the machinery assembling plant in the company has reduced the number of labour used in the production process. Labour cost constitutes a small portion of the manufacturing costs and the overhead costs have become the major constituent of the manufacturing cost. The changing trend has also raised the level of manufacturing overhead which represents 33% of the total manufacturing cost in the company. Due to the changing pattern of manufacturing process the traditional cost systems also tend to fail in the true valuation of cost. It has been noted that the management has taken inaccurate decisions and adopted strategies which have restrain the manufacturing process. In order to confirm the above assertions the management can gather data to analyze two important issues: 1. The production labour has declined as a percentage of total manufacturing costs. 2. The ratio of the total wage expenditures to production wages has been increased for all, most, or some manufacturing companies over time. (Boer and
